From the Chairman

“Our ESG philosophy is simple: deliver clean, dependable energy while creating lasting social value and operating with uncompromising integrity. At Nova Utilities, sustainability is not a goal, it is our foundation. Sustainability is not a report we file, it is the framework that governs every decision we make. We are building an energy future that works for Nigeria today, and for generations to come.”

Faruk Agoro  ·  Chairman, Nova Utilities

Our approach

Sustainability, built into the business

Sustainability is not a separate programme at Nova, it is how the business is built: displacing diesel with cleaner generation, operating safely and responsibly, and governing to the standards capital markets require.

Environmental

Cleaner power in place of diesel and an unreliable grid, with measurable reductions in emissions and fuel use.

Social

Reliable electricity for businesses and communities, local jobs and skills, and safety as a first principle.

Governance

An experienced board, clear policies, and reporting aligned to recognised international standards.

Framework

How we manage impact

01

Environmental

Every megawatt Nova builds displaces diesel generation or draws down the grid’s fossil mix. The result is lower emissions, less fuel burned, and cleaner air where people live and work.

  • Solar and cleaner gas in place of diesel
  • Emissions and fuel use tracked per asset
  • Floating solar that frees up scarce land
02

Social

Reliable power is a development input. Nova keeps factories, transport and public services running, while building local capacity and putting safety first.

  • Reliable electricity for business and the public
  • Local jobs, training and supplier development
  • Health and safety as an operating priority
03

Governance

Nova is built to be financed. That means an experienced board, clear policies, and the transparency that institutional investors and DFIs require.

  • Experienced board and defined oversight
  • Policies on HSE, ethics and anti-bribery
  • Reporting aligned to international standards

Standards

Built to recognised benchmarks

As Nova scales toward institutional and development-finance capital, its environmental and social management is being aligned to the frameworks those investors underwrite against.

IFC Performance Standards

The benchmark for environmental and social risk management in emerging-market project finance.

Equator Principles

The risk framework project-finance lenders use to assess and manage environmental and social impact.

Nigerian regulation

Licensed and operated within NERC and Lagos State frameworks for embedded and captive power.

UN SDGs

Operations mapped to the Sustainable Development Goals Nova most directly advances.

Alignment is in progress; formal certifications and audited disclosures will follow as part of Nova’s data-room build-out.

United Nations SDGs

The goals we move

Of the seventeen UN Sustainable Development Goals, Nova’s work contributes most directly to six.
